COMPANY TREASURER, 77 Charlotte Bender Abell, 77, a retired officer of the family-owned Abell Engineering Co. in Paoli, died of heart failure Sunday at her home in St. Michaels, Md.
Mrs. Abell, who lived in Paoli from 1958 to 1978, served as treasurer of the firm until retiring in 1992. The business, founded in the late 1960s by her husband, Ernest George Abell, is now being operated by a son.
Mrs. Abell was born and raised in Philadelphia's Germantown section. She graduated from Germantown High School in 1942 and attended Germantown Academy and Temple University. She returned to college in the late 1980s and studied for several years at Immaculata College.
During World War II, she worked as a volunteer at the Bendix aviation factory in Philadelphia, making oxygen regulators for Army Air Corps pilots.
From 1960 to 1970, she was a volunteer at the Trading Post in Paoli, which raises funds for cancer research.
She was a member of the St. Davids Golf Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Stone Harbor (N.J.) Yacht Club, and the Miles River Yacht Club in St. Michaels.
In addition to her husband, to whom she was married for 51 years, she is survived by children Richard B., Stephen G. and Constance A. Baranzano; a sister, seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Valley Forge and Conestoga Roads, Devon. Friends may call there after 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 625 W. Ridge Pike, Suite A-100, Conshohocken, Pa. 19428.
