Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Tuesday, February 9, 1960:
A requiem mass for John J. (Jack) Magee, 59, of 949 Hale Ave., who died Monday at 7:55 a.m. in St. Joseph Hospital, Alton, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Boniface Catholic church. He had been hospitalized three weeks.
The body may be viewed at the Weber funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday (this evening) with the Rev. Carl Schmidt, assistant pastor of St. Boniface church, in charge. The Rev. Lawrence T. Mattingly of St. Elizabeth church, Granite City, will officiate at the requiem mass Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery.
Manager of Weeks Wholesale Co., Mr. Magee had been employed by the firm 25 years. A former St. Louis resident, he had made his home in Edwardsville the past 14 years.
Mr. Magee was a member of the Board of Directors of Illinois Association of Tobacco Distributors, the board of Fire and Police Commissioners and Loyal Order of Moose 1561. He was also a member of St. Boniface church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1143.
Son of the late John J. and Bridget Morely Magee, he was born Sept. 13, 1900 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Survivors are his wife, the former Virginia Anderson whom he married Aug. 20, 1927 in St. Louis; a son and daughter, John J. Magee, Jr., and Miss Carol Ann Magee, both of St. Louis; three sisters, Miss Catherine Magee, Miss Helen Magee and Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Helms, all of Phildelphia; and two grandchildren.
