Irene Lehner, 92, of Jefferson Hills, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Mrs. Lehner was born Sylvia Irene Randolph on March 9, 1918, in Clairton, a daughter of the late James and Sarah Jane Plaster Randolph.
Irene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clairton, where she served as an ordained Deacon and Elder. She was a past president of the Women's Association and Tri-C Class and a former Circle Leader.
In addition to serving as Sunday School teacher and superintendent for many years, she was also a past Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader, Troop #96, a 50-year member of the Grand Chapter of the Pennsylvania Order of the Eastern Star #316, Past Mother Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Vesper Assembly #117, where she was a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color, a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Mt. Zion #16, the Order of the Amaranth, Wilson Memorial Court #40, the Daughters of America, Clairton Council #111 and Coal Valley Council #140, where she served as past president, councilor and secretary.
Nearly a lifelong resident of Clairton, Irene was employed by the G. C. Murphy Company, the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corp. (Woods Works), where she conducted metallurgical analysis during World War II, and later worked as a floral designer for Parker Reed, of McKeesport, Jim's Floral, of Clairton, and John's Floral and Greenery, of Glassport.
She is survived by daughters Joelle (Jim) Wilds, of North Huntingdon, and Joanne (Dom) DiMattia, of Jefferson Hills; grandchildren, Jeffrey L. (Teri) Wilds, of Irwin, Brian J. Wilds, of North Huntingdon, and Emily Jo (Stuart) McCowan, of Jefferson Hills; great-grandchildren, Samantha, of Irwin, and Valory, of Jefferson Hills; brothers William E. (Eunice) Randolph, of Enon Valley, and Carl A. (Janet) Randolph, of Trenton, Florida; sisters J. LaRue (Harry) Spudy and Louella F. Boczar, both of North Huntingdon, and Lavina F. Kerklo, of Liberty Boro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Lehner, in 1967, and son, Eddy Joe, in 1948; by her brothers Albert E. Randolph, J. Allen Randolph, Clyde I. (Erma) Randolph, Richard G. (Martha) Randolph, Edgar Randolph, Jack D. (Nancy) Randolph; and by sisters Evelyn M. Sorg, Grace E. Smith, Betsy J. Pearrell and Jacqueline D. (Carl) Lewis.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday and Thursday at the A. J. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, Clairton, followed by a service in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, with the Rev. John MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth.
