Ernest George Abell, 76, the founder of a local engineering company, died of heart failure Friday at his home in St. Michaels, Md.
Mr. Abell was the president of Abell Engineering Co., which was based first in Paoli and later in Chester Springs, from 1973 to 1992. A longtime resident of Paoli, he retired to Maryland in 1992.
He graduated from Central High School in 1941 and earned a bachelor's degree from Lehigh University in 1944.
He worked at Philadelphia Gas Works in the 1950s. From the early 1960s to 1973, Mr. Abell worked at J.V. Calhoun Co. in Bala Cynwyd as a combustion engineer and later became executive vice president of the company's process heating division.
In 1966, he earned a professional engineer license from the State Registration Board for Professional Engineers.
He wife of 51 years, Charlotte Bender Abell, died last year. Surviving are sons, Stephen and Richard; a daughter, Constance Baranzano; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mauger/Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Ave., Malvern. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7215 Ocean Gateway, Easton, Md. Interment will be private.
The family asks that any memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7215 Ocean Gateway, Easton, Md. 21601.
