Mrs. Marion Timberlake Yobs, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at her residence in Richmond.

She was the youngest daughter of Warren Sherman Timberlake of New Kent County and Mary Elizabeth Martin Timberlake of Sweethall, King William County.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Olmert Yobs.

She is survived by her children, Kathryn Elizabeth Schini of Richmond and Robert Eugene Yobs and his wife, Arleen, of Charlottesville. Marion was blessed with three grandchildren, Cam Schini Sherrell of Jacksonville, FL, Jonathan Sterling Yobs of Herndon and Richard Hetzer Schini Jr. of Norfolk; and one great-grandchild, Anna Charlotte Sherrell. She also had two stepgrandchildren, Charles N. Featherer and Tara Carlamere. Marion's older sister, Zelma Revere of Richmond, survives her. Marion also leaves behind a large extended family and innumerable friends.

Marion Edith Timberlake was born on August 16, 1917 on the family farm "Cherry Lane" in King William County, the youngest of five surviving children.

She graduated from Central High School in 1933 and attended Mary Washington College. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1939 and began her long career in teaching in Arlington.

In 1944, she became the Director of the U.S.O. in Arlington. She joined the Red Cross Hospital Corps in 1946, leading to the meeting of her future husband Robert, at Ft. Eustis, VA. She was the director of Hospital Recreation for the Red Cross for three years.

Robert and Marion married on August 16, 1947. They lived first in Williamsburg, where she taught at Williamsburg High School. They moved to Dothan, AL, in 1948 and returned to the Richmond area in 1949, where she resided for the rest of her life, raising her family in Westwood and later moving to Pinedale Farms.

She taught history and government in Henrico County schools from 1953 to 1965, worked as a guidance counselor in Chesterfield County Schools from 1965 to 1970, and was a school social worker for the City of Richmond from 1970 to 1978. She retired from teaching and was a leader in establishing the Henrico County Retired School Personnel Association.

Marion was actively involved in the community for her entire life. She was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as both Deacon and Elder.

She was a member and officer of the Westwood Junior Women's Club.

She was the first woman to run for the Henrico Board of Supervisors in 1950 and later ran for the Virginia House of Delegates.

Marion was cherished by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.

The family received friends 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Bliley's, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond. A funeral service held 1pm Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Richmond. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
